Alone

I sit alone to listen deep, I beg my soul to repeat
The wisdom she was pounding on my skull
I ask for truth and honesty in desperate tranquility
But most of all I ask of me…
She said:
People come and people go and no one really cares you know
The curtain opens on the same old show
Artificial sacred fires, so many golden-tongued liars
The park's full of weeds just watch 'em grow!
So wrapped up in your mind, poisoned there for the longest time
Your finger pressing hard on the rewind
Ride the wave of life to be thrashed about the human sea
Crawl ashore, “What do you hope to find?”
Nothing's left that is sacred. Degrees of truth are all profane
Why can't we be more like children, to laugh and play out in the rain?
The tug of the falling sands remind me how very bland
Life can be when you eat it out of a can
“I'll get mine if you get yours, and if we don't then we'll have war”
We'll fight and kill and hurt until the end
“Right and wrong, good and bad”, are just ideas someone had
What is real is often just a fad
Kingdoms come and nations go and archeology will show
The truth about the life we really had
Walk alone in the twilight, I'm your only best friend
You were born alone and hungry, and you'll leave alone in the end
Verbal camouflage of feelings that are true
You hide who you really are but you leave out some clues
You hope someone will care enough to find out who you are
And remove you from your lonesome jar
You hide from truth as if it were a monster out of distant lore
Pretending you can't be hurt no more
The comedy of life runs deep, you play your part with dark deceit
Those nagging feelings you choose to ignore
“Can you leave the world alive?” If not why then so hard try
To buy all that shit before you die?
The hourglass is halfway gone, it's downhill from now on
Don't you find it hard not to lie?
Who do you have you can trust with: Your life, your heart, your home?
It's so fragile being human, yet I choose to walk alone
