After 10 years the man climbed back up
To the cave where the Guru lived upon the mountain top
He exclaimed, “I’m sorry sir, for the things that I said.
“I’m ready now to learn, you see, I’ve shaved my head.”
The Guru laughed and asked, “Please tell,
“The story of your wanderings and life up ‘till now?”
The man spoke of the material things he’d done
But now he was sure the spiritual path was the one
“You see,” he said, “I’ve become a millionaire
“With limousines and servants and a pet that is a bear.
“With all this I feel empty and must find out why,
“I feel I must prepare for the day that I die!”
The Guru exclaimed, “Life is but a dream
“Things aren’t always exactly what they seem.
“Life is easy, so why make it hard?
“Just let go and things won’t get marred.”
The man said, “Yes I know, you said this all before
I still don’t understand, why won’t you teach me more?”
The Guru grinned as he watched him climb back down with care,
For he knew that he was just about there
