Just Like the Blues

Sometimes you get beaten into a pulp
Pushed over the edge, you swear you've had enough
Sometimes life kicks you, squarely in the teeth
Leaves ya lyin' face down, bleeding, out in the street
And there are those times you're caught without a map
You take the wrong turn, you can't find your way back
You push into fourty thinkin' you've paid your dues
But you find out it's just like the blues
The burden of proof weighs heavy on your soul
The ravages of time have begun to take their toll
You wished for the future, now you long for the past
In all of those years you wish you had something that would last!
You say things you don't mean and mean things you don't say
You hate the game you're in but it's impossible not to play
You catch yourself feelin' you've got nothin' to lose
Hollow dreams of greatness echo soundless in your shoes
You discover it's harder and harder and harder to find your muse
You curse, “It's just like the blues!”
The “frolic with disaster” says are gone
The light up ahead, well babe, it's just the sun
And there's no battle to be won
No battle to be won!
The seasons of moonshine you did trade
For domestic games, but now you know how they're played
The house and the car and the money and the overhead above
What ever happened to the solitude that you loved?!
You traded your freedom for a fine crafted cage
Oh my God, man, the things you've done to get laid!
You peer toward the future but it's just yesterday's news
You live a life of drama but you can't help wonderin' whose
The baby is cryin' and the shingles are loose
You see it's just like the blues!
It seems it's just like the blues!
It seems it's just like the blues…
